This week, farm gate prices across the main regions in India showed some variations. In Vietnam, prices continued to rise for both Vannamei and Monodon, while farm gate prices in Indonesia remained stable from the previous week. Last week, farm gate prices in China declined in Guangdong, while prices in Fujian showed some fluctuations.
Vietnam: From August until now, Vannamei farm gate prices in the Mekong Delta continued to rise quite sharply. The reason is due to reduced supply, low farm productivity and disease outbreaks on shrimp. Raw material shrimp prices increased dramatically in October and continued to rise in November. Raw material farm-gate sourced are decreased and the harvesting season is shorter than last year.
Remarkable, the price of shrimp from size 50 to 55 pcs/kg has increased sharply by VND 5k/kg compared to the previous week. At the size of 45 pcs/kg, price increased by VND 3k/kg. The price of Raw HOSO 60 pcs/kg increased up to VND 150,000/kg.
India: Farm-gate shrimp prices in India continued to rise in week 48. In Andhra Pradesh, prices rose for all sizes, while in Gujarat, prices dropped for all sizes. In Odisha and West Bengal, prices remained stable from the previous week. The price of 60 pcs/ kg (HOSO) in Andhra Pradesh has been increased to USD 4.09/kg from USD 3.97/kg in the week 47.
China: The farm gate prices saw a decline in multiple prices, especially for larger-sized shrimp. This contrasts our expectations of stable levels or even some slight upticks until the end of the year in the build-up to some holidays that drive demand. This shows the ongoing low demand from the end consumer as prices are decreasing even during relatively low availability
Thailand: Farm-gate shirmp price in Thailand recorded a slight increase across of all sizes in the week 46, price of HOSO 60 pcs/kg are reached the highest level during this period since 2017. Price of HOSO 60 pcs/kg are increased to THB 5, up to THB 169,8/ kg (4,70 USD/kg), reached its highest level in the last 7 years.
Indonesia: Farm gate prices remained stable for all sizes in all regions this week. Looking back at the same period last year, prices were significantly down in the last weeks of the year and the first weeks of this year. This was due to more supply being available then and the start of the uncertainty surrounding. This year, the supply of shrimp from Indonesia has been lower than last year, and there is more certainty with the final decisions reached last month. Leading to an expectation of a less steep drop than in 2023, but some movement downwards anyway as the demand trends downward after the holiday period.
Ecuador: Prices over the last weeks increased for all sizes. Especially the larger-sized shrimp saw continued significant increases over the last weeks, indicating less supply of these sizes in the country, as the smaller-sized shrimp are remaining at a stable level or are seeing less significant increases. This can be explained by earlier harvests during the colder periods, as more disease pressure will come from these temperatures, paired with slower growth rates.
